Blog Assignment #2

Mr. Dancealot
I feel as if the central message in this video is that you cannot just teach students new information and expect them to test immediately. You have to allow the student to practice, or ask questions to help them verify the knowledge. I think this video goes with the saying practice makes perfection. The way he closes the video is amazing. Its saying okay, now show me what you learned. I would be a very upset student. This video shows you exactly what not to do in a classroom. You will fail as a teacher and the students will fail as students. It also taught me that you can teach children new information all day and get no results. Especially when the children have not tried the lesson for themselves.

  21st Century
A. Information
 1.Blogs/Facebook/YouTube
 2.Found Anywhere
 3.Filter
B.Skills
 1. Essential Questions
 2. Apply/Analyze/Evaluate
 3. Create Solutions
 C. Engagement
 1.Active
 2.Learning
 3. Long Term Result

I never would have thought about all theses ways to help a student gain information to a problem. I feel it will help students become independent in their studies and throughout life. I will definitely be using some of these google tools in my classroom I could use them for Math, or Science. I am excited about learning more about these tools in EDM 310.

Network Student

My reaction to this video seemed to change the longer watched. At first, I thought it was going to be a guy talking about how a teacher changed his life thru connectivism. Then I started enjoying all the ways he connected with the students and the world all thru media. I did not know that I tunes could be used for more than just music.I also loved how he reached out and the director did a podcast with the class. This video simply showed me how technology can help us in the classroom more ways than I thought.

Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts

I enjoyed her idea about having the students think for themselves. I loved how she encouraged her student to google words. I wish a teacher would have taught me how to blog in school. I agree with her idea because she is teaching the students a new learning style. I like how she allowed each team to get up in front of the classroom to teach the class. This helps with students who are shy or students who do not like to interact in the classroom.

Learning Race

I am not last in this this race but I am struggling. I am encouraged by these young children to learn how to use all these items on tablets or mac books. I have friend who teaches kindergarten and she loves to use tablets in her classroom. She uses them constantly in her classroom. While observing a 2nd grade class, I had the advantage of looking at all the science, and math lesson on the tablets. They also use them to take their AR tests. I am excited about using these as a teacher. I will probably have my students show me how to work some of the wonderful apps on these tablets. Edm 310 will show me how technology helps the classroom.

Flipping the Classroom

No, I have never heard of this idea. Yes, I believe it will be useful because it will allow students to process and think about the lesson before the next day. It eliminates the stress of having to teach a student over and over how something is done. I believe it will help the students understand the material and allow them to have questions when they do not understand.

Blog Assignment #1

photo by:www.mesacc.eduI found these videos and this power point to be full of information. They gave me some very goods way to peer edit my classmates posts. I have learned that when you are peer editing there are three rules that you must apply. These rules are compliments, suggestions, and corrections. I must first start with compliments and tell the reader what I liked about their post. I should always be positive. Use sentences  such as: I like the way you... or I think you used a lot of good details. When I give suggestions I should always be specific. I should use interesting words. I need to pay attention to detail, organization, word choice, and topic. I need to make sure that their writings always flows and stays on topic. When I make corrections, I need to be kind. Make sure I do not hurt anyone feelings. I need to look for punctuation, grammar, and spelling. Be kind!

In the video Writing Peer Review Top Ten Mistakes, I found all the children adorable. I can easily see my self being Off Task Oliver and Defensive Dave. I need to remember not to be like Pushy Paula. It is not fair to push my opinion or thoughts on another students' writing. I need to always slow down and do not rush like Speedy Sandy. I will always be kind and do not insult another students' work unlike Mean Margaret.

Test Blog; Introduction

Hello, everyone! My name is Jessica McCants. This is my second semester at South Alabama. I plan on entering candidacy in the fall this semester. I am an elementary education major and I plan on teaching 2nd grade or special education. I started attending the University of  North Alabama in 2008 but things did not workout so I moved back home and to South Alabama. I am a native of the Eastern Shore. I was born and raised in Fairhope, AL. I am the youngest of three and the baby girl. I was born October 13th on a Friday. I am a left handed. I love listening to all kinds of music and reading.

I want to enter the field of education because I feel I can make a positive influence on youth today. I feel like teachers are focusing on learning and not much hands on activities. I feel as if I would focus on hands on activities and cater to all the different learning style of each student. Educators in the 21st century have to learn to grow with the technology as they become teachers. Technology is a main tool in teaching education and improving the quality of life for children.
